Good morning Sofie! What exactly does a Consultant Project Manager do?
My role at Amadeus is pretty fluid, so most of the time, I do project management. That means assisting the development, implementation, and management of multiple smaller project or a single large one.
That sounds quite hectic. Does that bother you?
Not at all, so far it’s going well. It’s in my nature to be a bit of a control freak, and that certainly helps when you have to follow up on a large number of projects. Right now, for instance, we’re working on upgrading our customers to Amadeus Selling Platform Connect. Changing front offices is no small task, but I like to keep oversight.
So you’re one of those extremely well-prepared travellers?
Not at all, that’s the thing! (laughs) It’s like two ends of the same stick: when I travel I let go of all my controlling urges and just go with the flow. Travelling that way has given me some of my best memories: crossing the Argentinian Pampas with my sister, for instance, having no idea where we were going to sleep that night. Liberating!
How did you end up on the Pampas?
I’m in love with the country of Argentina. After high school, I lived there for a full year. I still speak Spanish with an Argentinean accent! Over the years, I have visited my foster family there 7 times. Next time we want to bring our kids along.
Actually, now that I think of it, my love of travel and adventure started right there, in Argentina.
Did that adventure influence your career choices?
It did, after the exchange program, I decided to go study tourism. My studies helped me find an internship as a check-in agent. After I obtained my degree, I worked full-time behind a ticketing desk. That’s where I first came into contact with a travel IT. After a while, however, I was looking for more stability and found opportunities at Amadeus.
Did you encounter any challenges that you can help solve today?
When I first started at Amadeus, I worked at the help desk. I was able to help clients very well because I know exactly which problems they were facing. In my current role, I have less contact with the end users.
I still help solve problems tough. Optimally Planning the upgrade of all our customers to Amadeus Selling Platform Connect , for instance. Clients can’t wait to get their hands on it. That’s what I love about my job: I can do loads of projects, and still, each one offers unique challenges.
The seat next to you can never be empty. Do you have a colleague in mind?
Absolutely, I’d like to get to know Philippe Colyn from Customer Care a little better. Technical support is such an essential part of our business.
